面塑艺术是我国独有的传统手工艺术之一。起源于汉朝，兴于清代，流传至今，有着相当久远的历史。
面塑的材料非常特殊，（主要成份是面，却可保存）可塑性极强，质地鲜艳、透明，造型精美别致，细致入微，具有很强的文化气息和观赏性，已成为登入大雅之堂的艺术品。由于面塑的表现力极为丰富，延年耐久，而成为礼祭、收藏供奉、欣赏之佳品。
于丽媛， 1980 年生于天津，中国民间文艺家协会会员，自幼酷爱美术，尤其擅长工笔画，其作品以宗教神话、仕女题材为主，造型生动，神采飞扬，风格细腻而不失粗犷，较为自然地兼具了王面塑和北京“面人汤”的不同艺术风格。在人体结构上讲求准确严谨，在裙裾衣饰上又追求潇洒飘逸，代表作《精卫填海》在 2000 年天津首届民间艺术博览会上获奖，并入选天津民间艺术精品集，作品《西方三圣》、《紫竹林观音》、《吴彩鸾》、《文殊菩萨》、《丝路花语》等多次被新闻媒体介绍，天津日报曾作过整版报导，是天津民间文艺家协会中年龄最小、呼声最高的青年面塑家。
