Jan 29 2004 - Coca-Cola has chosen a halcyon course for its latest campaign, the first to come from the brand’s new agency, Mother. “I wish” features British singer, Sharlene Hector, serenely walking through the streets, benevolently handing free Coca-Cola to passers-by.
Director Ringan Ledgwidge executed the ad in one shot, a la Massive Attack “Unfinished Sympathy” video. The Mill’s telecine artist, Fergus McCall, devoted an entire day to developing the commercial’s appropriately tranquil and earthy grade. Flame artists Phil Crowe and Richard Betts worked alongside the print campaign’s illustrator to create an animated title sequence from existing artwork.
This most recent concept echoes Coca-Cola’s early advertising where an international array of harmonious teenagers were united by song… and Coca-Cola… on a lush hillside. The new campaign marks a revised strategy for the brand. If these spots go down well with UK audiences, the campaign could go global.
